The Department aims at providing the students of Automobile Engineering with learning facilities analogous to International standards for designing and manufacturing of automobiles, imparting knowledge to design vehicles with lesser pollution and better safety standards to meet the norms, and to expose them to the latest research, development and techniques so as to cater to the growing needs of the Industries and to mould the students as technological experts and Entrepreneur.
Library
The Department library is equipped with books related to latest automotive technologies and CD's containing videos related to Automobile Engineering. The Department is working on Bio-diesel Research Project and faculty members are actively engaged in search of alternative fuels for IC engines. Students are encouraged to work on innovative projects in collaboration with the Innovative Project Cell of the Institution.
Opportunities
Automobile Engineers have job opportunities in various fields like automobile maintenance and service, production, research & development and transport departments. In addition they have the flexibility of being employed in computer industries too. They have opportunities for higher studies in India and abroad in specialized areas. The students who complete the course successfully can join modern automobile industries like Volvo, Ashok Leyland, Telco, Ford, Hyundai, Maruti, volkswagen, BMW, Benz, Bharthbenz etc. They can also become entrepreneurs by operating service centers for automobiles.

Mission
To endow the students with Automobile Engineering at par with MNC’s Expectations for designing and manufacturing of automobiles using Pro-E, CAD / CAM, RPT. Instill knowledge to design Eco- friendly vehicles with lesser pollution and better safety measures to meet Bharath norms, inculcate proficiency to build hybrid vehicles and to use alternative source of energy.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEO)
To provide students with sound foundation in the mathematical, scientific and engineering fundamentals necessary to formulate, analyze and solve engineering problems and to prepare them for higher studies and for successful careers in automobile industry.
To impart students with knowledge, innovation and skills towards research, design and development of Automotive Systems and allied integrated systems of global standards for betterment of society. To impart knowledge in usage of alternate fuels and emission control in IC engines.
To instill the values, skills, leadership, team spirit and professional ethics for comprehensive and wholesome personality and to promote entrepreneurial interest among students so that they can compete globally in the field and to create a fervor for use of Engineering in addressing societal concerns.
Programme Outcomes (POs)

Course Profile
The Department of Automobile Engineering was started in the academic year 2009- 2010 with a sanctioned intake of 60 students. The department has dedicated and qualified faculty members. The department follows the syllabus of the Anna University and to supplement the syllabus, guest lectures and Industrial visits are organized. Laboratories are well equipped with latest equipments such as modem engines, chassis dynamometer, exhaust gas analyzer, pressure crank angle measurement systems, fuel testing equipments, etc.
The Department offers Master program in Manufacturing Engineering since 2011 with an intake of 16, CAD/CAM Engineering since 2012with an intake of 16, and Industrial Safety Engineering since 2013 with an intake of 24, We have dedicated Industrial Safety laboratory with equipments and instruments such as Exhaust gas analyzer, High volume sampler, sound level meter etc., Safety First is the slogan for any industry or organization. We make the students to act as Safety officers in an industry. Frequent industrial visits and in-plant training are being arranged to the students for acquiring industrial culture.

The Department has well established engine testing laboratory to carry out various performance and emission tests on Automotive Engines. The equipments available are:
Multi-cylinder CI and SI engine cut-section models
Single-cylinder CI and SI engine cut-section models
Two wheeler engine test rig
Multi cylinder SI test rig with hydraulic dynamometer
Multi cylinder CI test rig with eddy current dynamometer
Piezoelectric pick up & crank angle encoder
5 Gas analyzer for exhaust gas analysis

CAD Lab
CAD/CAM facility caters to the training of our students in the usage of latest CAD and CAM software. The lab uses modeling software like AUTOCAD, PRO-E, CATIA, ANSYS and CAM software like EDGECAM, ESPRIT, DENFORD, and CNC TUTOR. CNC Trainer lathe and CNC milling trainer are also available. The offline simulation software certification courses are being run for students in PRO-E package by the in-house faculty.

Technical Seminar on Safety in Automobile Industries-AUTOCRATS on 25th September 2014
Thiru. A.Anbalagan, Chairman, and Thiru. R.Ramanathan, Correspondent honored the Chief Guest. Prof. M.K.Aravindan, HOD (Automobile) explained about the importance of the Techincal seminar.Prof. S.K.Elangovan, Secretary, delivered the Presidential Address, and he urged the students to come forward, observe and utilize the benefits of the Technical seminar.
Prof. S.Obli, Dean, explained about the importance of Safety in Automobile Engineering. Dr. T.K.Kannan, Principal, also enhanced the key points about Safety in Automobile Industries and the role of engineering students to emphasize the same. He congratulated the HOD and Staff members of Automobile Department for organizing this Technical seminar.
Mr. Ashbin Rose Baby – Final year Automobile Engineering, introduced the Chief Guest to the participants. The Chief Guest Address was given by Mr.K.Arul, Joint Director of Industrial Safety and Health, Salem who has briefed on how to save oneself in industries and public places from the accidents. He insisted that one should wear helmet properly while travelling. The valedictory function was presided over by Dr. T.K. Kannan, Principal and the students had expressed their views and opinions about the Technical seminar. They were given more time to understand the concept explained during the Technical seminar and was conducted in an effective manner.

National Level Technical Symposium AUTOBLAZE2K13 on 21st September 2013
Dr.K.R.Ravi, professor, Department of metallurgical Development Engineering PSG institute of advanced studies was the chief guest for this Inaugural function and he elaborated the present trend about technological development and how to develop their interpersonal skills.He explained his project and motivated the students to involve in doing real project and also guided in doing the funded project.Finally, he concluded the quoting that "new inventions can be achieved by doing real time projects".
Prof. Obli, Dean & Dr. T.K.Kannan, Principal felicitated the function. They congratulated the HOD and staff members of automobile department for inaugurating this function. He exhorted the association to conducted more technical seminar, special lectures once in a month, to enrich the technical knowledge of the students. SAE Collegiate Club
Inauguration of SAE Collegiate Club on 01st January 2012
Dr.R.Subramanian HOD / Automobile, IRTT Erode. Mr.B.Kumaran Manager / Engineering Services, BOSCH India Ltd., Coimbatore. Was the chief guest for the Inaugural gathering. He delivered the inaugural address to the students. He instilled the knowledge on the quality of education and called upon the students to develop leadership persona, professional ethics, codes and conducts while encouraging the students to enhance their communicational skills.
He advised the students to achieve their goal through innovative ideas, hard work and determination. He provided highly structured information regarding the demand for Automobile Engineers all over the world. The introductory session was followed by the seminar on the topic “Development of Automobile Industries in India”. The students and staff members interacted with him actively and thanked him for sharing his experience and teachings.
Mr.A.Anbalagan, Chairman honored the chief guest Dr.R.Subramanian HOD / Automobile, IRTT Erode. Mr.B.Kumaran Manager / Engineering Services, BOSCH India Ltd., Coimbatore. Prof.S.Elangovan, Secretary delivered the Presidential Address, and he urged the students to acquire knowledge beyond their subjects to develop a broad perspective and work with perseverance and sincerity towards their cherished goals.

Department is having Good interaction with leading automotive industries which is evident from donated components (engines, turbo chargers, steering gear boxes, etc.) and Vehicle (ford CAR) for enhancing teaching learning process. Eminent speakers from industries and academic institutions address students on current topics in automotive fields to enhance.
Workshops & Conferences
Department is organizing Workshops, Seminars, Conferences and Symposia regularly to facilitate learning platform for faculty and students to explore and share knowledge in the latest fields in Automobile Engineering. CSIR has sanctioned more than 5 lakhs so far for conducting Faculty Development Programs, Workshops and Seminars.
SAE Collegiate Club
Department is having active SAE Collegiate Club and almost all the faculty and students are members of SAE INIDA.
Co-Curricular
Our students actively participated in the competitions conducted by other institutions and brought several laurels to our department It is worth to mention that more than 21 prizes are won in co-curricular activities.
