Prof. S.Obli has passed B.E in Civil Engineering in first class with Honors at Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Coimbatore under the University of Madras in the Year 1963. Subsequently he has passed M.Sc (Engg) with specialization in Structured Engineering in first class at P.S.G College of Technology, Coimbatore under the University of Madras in the Year 1965. He joined the Teaching post in the entry cadre as Associate Lecturer in Civil Engineering in Govt. College of Technology, Coimbatore during Oct 1965.

He has totally 32 ½ years of teaching experience in the cadres of Govt. Engineering Colleges
1. Govt. College of Technology, Coimbatore.
2. Govt. College of Engineering, Salem.
3. College of Engineering, Guindy.
4. Govt. College of Engineering, Tirunelveli. He retired from the Govt. Service during 1998.

As a structural Engineer from 1998 to 2001 he has worked as structural and foundation consultant, From 2002 to 2005 he was the Principal, Vivekanandha College of Engineering for Women Tiruchengodu and developed all the infra structural facilities including buildings. At the age of 65 he was relieved from the post of the Principal of Vivekanandha College of engineering for Women and again started the structural consulting from July 2006. From July 2006 he is the Dean of the Kavery College of Engineering, Mecheri for the development of the institution.
